Nextbook Flexx 10.1 Features
The 10.1-inch display has an In-Plane E-Fun Nextbook 10.1. Switching (IPS) panel, providing one clear improvement over the smaller E-Fun Nextbook 8. It follows a pretty standard design: matte black plastic casing, ports on one edge. The screen features a 1366 x 768 resolution that is, appropriately, much more common on laptops than on tablets. It’s better than the 720P HDTV standard, although stretched across the 11.6 inch screen it still gives a pixel density of only 135 DPI. That’s livable, but not amazing.
This model features double the RAM (2GB) of its predecessor, 32GB of expandable storage and three USB ports (two full-size, one Micro-USB). The screen remains bright and colorful, though still a little low-res at 1,280×800. (I rarely found myself noticing that.)
Physically, it’s the same as the previous model, which I found to be a solid, sturdy piece of hardware. The screen and keyboard together weigh just under 3 pounds, and the screen by itself (aka the tablet) weighs about 1.5 pounds. I especially liked the keyboard, which, although necessarily a bit cramped, feels great overall. It’s not the least bit mushy, a welcome surprise. Even the touchpad is surprisingly roomy. The screen now has a locking mechanism that keeps it connected to the keyboard dock.
The microphone and a bunch of other ports (Micro HDMI port, MicroSD card slot, Micro USB port, 3.5mm headphone port, and power port) are all located on the left side of the tablet. The detachable keyboard includes two USB 2.0 ports for additional storage or connecting external devices such as a mouse or printer.
A power, volume and Microsoft home button is located on the back of the device (top left) while the two speakers are located both sides behind the tablet.

- The screen has pretty good viewing angles from most any direction, and five-finger touch tracking.
- The design isn’t perfect, of course. For starters, because all of the really important hardware is on the screen side, the keyboard is actually thinner than the vertical portion, putting it slightly out of balance. Not too badly, but it takes a little getting used to. Also, without having the “twist and flip” option, you do have to carry the keyboard separately if you want to keep that option available while using the tablet as a tablet. It’s a tradeoff, of course, but it’s probably one of the better ones.
- The display is better than I expected, but the sound is predictably disappointing. The single rear-facing speaker puts out very little sound, with a distinct buzz at high volume.
